As the Earth turns from west to east, the observer on Earth has the impression that the sky passes by from east to west. Most noticable is this movement when observing celestial objects to rise or set, or passing behind a tree... because then, the eye has a fixed line in nature that covers the object or not.
The setting of Sun, Moon, stars and planets happens not only in exactly west but also in northwest and southwest
